Summer Views
This summer has changed several times within the past week. Trips are changing, summer work schedule has changed, but we have to get the viewing down.
TV
The Bear
Season 3 will be binged in a single night. This comes out tomorrow so now I have to get Hulu for a month. Jeremy Allen White isn’t just giving us our favorite chef with anxiety, he will portray Springsteen later this year. The guy is on fire.
The Waterfront
I don’t know much about this show, but it’s giving me Ozarks vibes. A family, money issues, a boat, and work that doesn’t involve office hours. I’m down, let’s see how this plays out.
And Just Like That
I’m enjoying the latest season and listening to the girls chat creates a lot of prompts to talk with my own compadres.
Squid Game
It’ll be nice to see how this ends. I have some theories on the identity of our antagonist, but I’ll hold judgement until the show is over.
Film
F1
The marketing for this has been great. Never doubt that this car film is just salve to heal millennium wounds. Don’t fall for it, but enjoy it. They’re lying to us. They want us to believe that twenty years from now we will either look like Brad Pitt or be in relationships with men our age that will look like him. He is 61, but everything about him screams late 30’s on the streets. They sold us on Mars when we were kids, let’s not take this fantasy to heart, but the movie will be awesome.
Jurassic World: Rebirth
I love this series. I’ll watch all of them on the big screen. I understand the budget for this latest installment is the smallest of any film in the franchise. What would that look like?
Happy Gilmore
Does it being Netflix mean I can watch it at home? I won’t mind that. I know this will make me laugh.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
How do the original cast members who are a few years older than me, have kids in high school, but I haven’t aged? They need to bring Ryan Philippe back from the dead so we can see that it really doesn’t happen to all of us.
Eddington
The latest Ari Aster film. Enough said.
Honey Don’t
A new Coen Brothers film that’s giving strong Raising Arizona vibes? I’m there.
Weapons
I understand there was a bidding war with this script. The concept of the film I can’t recall seeing before. This will be a great suspenseful film to cap off the summer.
There isn’t a shortage of films or TV for this summer and what I like is that we aren’t being force-fed summer fare, but we’re getting a lot of original content, or at least revisiting IP’s that were actually fun to watch.
