Season 1 was a catch-up on what they’d been up to during the decade that they were gone, and then they killed Mr. Big. In season 2, they brought back granola Aiden. They were both boring seasons, but if there was nothing else to watch, you tuned in. I was a teen watching the original SATC - it was about the fashion and how she never really went to work, but she had that cute apartment and was constantly out at lunch. I believe the theme of AJLT is that the girls are the same, just twenty years later.
Miranda
Miranda has gone through a lot of discovery and she’s not as angry as she used to be. I like that her outlet now is reality television. They don’t go as deep into the new firm she works at like they did her first job, but you can tell she’s happy, but nowhere near as stressed. Brady is in college, she’s divorced, so she’s almost back to where she was at SATC, except now she’s at a better job. Her storyline isn’t as annoying as it was the first two seasons.
Charlotte
We meet her at season 3 where she’s annoyed about not being able to spend more time at work because she’s bogged down with her wife and mom stuff. She has a moment in episode 3 where she crashes out over not going to the clubs with her coworkers. Her kids tell her to go for it and she goes with Harry. Shout-out to Harry who wore selvedge jeans to the club and couldn’t walk right because of how stiff they are. I love how Charlotte finally gets to go out and realizes it’s not her thing. Her storyline this year will be her trying to get her kid into Princeton.
Seema
She’s my favorite character, but she’s not Samantha. She’s her own character and I hope they go deeper into her origin story. She’s starting her own company and they just gave her a short, but insightful matchmaker story. They introduced the hot gardener in this episode and I was for sure it was for Carrie, but it’s leaning towards Seema.
I think I will like this storyline. I don’t want her to exist simply to be the soundboard for Carrie, I want her to have a storyline of her own.
Carrie
For those of us that have been there from the beginning, does anyone not remember that her new place that she shares with Aiden was purchased with Big’s money? It’s like an ongoing gag that we know, but never address. Is that his legacy? He was kind of a jerk, but he does the right thing and dies and left her a place to enjoy with the new guy? I don’t want to sit through this Aiden storyline. He’s boring and I don’t get what her pull to him is aside from the nostalgia of having been happy with him twenty years earlier.
I can’t wait to see what her new garden looks like. The historical story she’s writing seems fun, and she’s still Carrie. Are we all talking into our phone to send texts now?
It’s summer now, besides websites and a collaborative story, it’s TV shows and wishing I had Carrie’s walk-in closet because I’ve acquired too much stuff over the past year again.
I’m on this journey too! And taking it very unseriously 😂
