Opera Looks & Snacks
I love opera. The theatrics, the voices, the costumes. I’ve always loved listening to them and attending. I once fancied myself an opera singer and could picture myself on a stage. [Note: I’ve since stood on one. The floor is tilted, had I gone this route I would have definitely broken my back at some point.] Maria Callas was my inspo. Her performances were always my go-tos.
I saw Angelina in Maria this week and it wrecked me. To see her perform La Callas was epic. Again, the theatrics, the voice, the costumes.
The real Maria was the Taylor Swift of her era and her story was the one with Ari. Angelina probably has just as many that we’ll hear about as the decades roll on.
For me this week it was about the clothes. Her incorporation of pure white with black in two-tone outfits I think will be the mimicked look in 2025. The reason why those crisp lines are so hard? They have to cut at the right angles.
I’m obsessed with her arms and her collarbone. Every half decade I will be consumed with a look Angelina has and this time around it’s those two things that stand out to me. The two-tone outfits of this film will be talked about all throughout award season.
I was attending an event and it was all I could think about. Yes, a librarian walked into the store and tried to recreate Maria Callas’ wardrobe.
What I wanted was a vintage two-tone dress in the fabric of her gown above. What I settled for was a CK sheath in all black with a white wrap. I think that with 24 hours and the budget of absolutely nothing I was able to make some semblance of the look. I added an ethnic necklace as my own personal touch to the outfit.
My outfit was complimented, but not one person referenced La Callas. I wondered if the event had been later this year would the outcome have been different, but it doesn’t matter. Like all my Hollywood ideas, at some point I get hungry and move on.
It was a long event and they had Trader Joe’s down the street. I just really wanted a sweet and savory treat so I dipped and went in search of snacks. I found chips and dark chocolate covered raisins.
I was dressed up on a Friday night walking through Trader Joe’s shopping for snacks. That’s peak Sabrina.
My outfit was noticed. No one said anything, but the guy at the register couldn’t resist.
Cashier: So, any plans for tonight?
Me: I’m actually attending an event at the hotel down the street.
Cashier: Makes sense.
Me: I just got hungry. No one will notice me gone for thirty minutes so I’ll be eating snacks in the parking lot before I continue with the evening.
Cashier: As you should.
Maria Callas and Angelina have attended many events in perfect outfits, but have either of them abruptly left to search the snack aisle at Trader Joe’s? I think I have both of them beat on that front.
I really like playing dress up, but I like snacks more. The only things better than dress-up and snacks? Those two things, plus a cute Sturgill with you. Is it Monday yet? Next time.
