Nostalgic Movie Viewing
The Drafthouse and how we should movie
I watched 28 Days Later at the Green Valley Ranch movie theatre in Vegas with my brother. We were a few months into moving to Vegas. Getting dropped off at a casino with different food places, an arcade room, and no closing time was a great intro to our 20’s. When I heard of the third installment coming out I knew we had to watch it together.
That’s how I ended up in Arizona at the Drafthouse. When I think of the Alamo in Hollywood all I can remember is the alcohol. I’m not what you would categorize as a drinker, but I do order one every time I’m at that particular theatre.
Experiencing Drafthouse with Josiah was great. These are the things that stood out to me that I really enjoyed.
We walked into the Drafthouse from Fogo’s. There was no room for anything else, but I wanted to grab a drink. I wanted a glass of wine to watch an apocalyptic world, but when the waitress arrived she gave me options I didn’t know I wanted. We ordered two ginger ales and I wanted a sorbet. This conversation happened.
“Would you like popcorn?”
“We just ate, we’re okay.”
“Different flavors and we’ll bring it in a silver mixing bowl with a second on top so you can both have your own bowl. We can mix the flavors too.”
“What flavors do you have?”
We went with butter and caramel. The food arrived just as the trailers were ending and two people that had each eaten a few pounds in Picanha hit that silver bowl like it never happened.
It was the silver bowl that sold it. All the memories of silver mixing bowls and movies, I’ll order it any time it’s offered. Take note, AMC.
The raspberry sorbet was great. I need to read the menu. I asked for a large and they brought me two scoops. I’ve got the silver bowl of popcorn in front of me and my feet are elevated. When I say large sorbet, I’m expecting you to hand me a pint of it. We’ll work on that for the future.
I like how the seating at the Drafthouse is smaller. Even in the larger theatre we’re talking 40 seats. I like the large screens and the comfortable chairs, but an added bonus is feeling like there’s no one else in the theatre.
I won’t be sitting next to my brother at the next film, which will probably be F1 this week. I did enjoy watching films like I did when I was younger. With a huge popcorn, more snacks, and the little brother sitting next to me to talk to about the film.
