I saw this ad on social media and with a week off landlocked in Los Angeles I went down to the arts district.
It’s a sensory and auditory experience. Google that and make of it what you will, I’m going to explain it how it happened to me. Here’s how the pros explained it.
I arrived early. I guess to get me somewhere on time there has to be something cool for me to check out. I walked around the lobby and when they check you in they ask that you don’t touch the installations because some of them are made of paper and are for visual effect but will not save you if you lose your footing and are looking for something to grab onto.
Right after this they walk you into a pitch black room. Before I was immersed in darkness I touched the wall and sure enough it was made of paper. I decided not to move because tripping and falling in a pitch dark room isn’t on my bingo card for Spring Break. I can’t return to work after another vacation limping.
A calm voice starts speaking and takes you through a breathing exercise. I followed as much as I could while I tried to figure out if my eyes would adjust in time for the next room.
You’re next asked to walk into the main room and this is where I lost time. You walk in and there are thin, wispy material that create separate pods. Some rooms have chairs, others have pillows on the floor, and a few are empty. After walking the parameter of the room I park in a room with a chair and that’s where I was for what I learned was over half an hour but it felt like seconds.
My video doesn’t do it justice, but when you sit under this portal and stare at it, that center changes. With the music playing at the same beat that the lights change the center of that square changes. It moves and for seconds at a time it’ll ripple and then go back to flat.
Rewind to a few years back and I’m laying in one of those saltwater pods. They turned the lights off, but I kept the lid open because I just couldn’t. The music started and I was floating down a river. The pod was probably five feet across but I never touched the edge as I floated. I felt cool desert air on my face as well. I stretched my arms towards the night sky and it set off the sensors in the room which immediately brought me back to the pod. I turned the lights back off and tried to get back there and it never happened. I’ve been chasing that place ever since and Chromasonic Field came pretty close.
I shot that video to show how the room changes tones along with the music. I loved this part. You hear that drum beat inside of you and you forget you’re even sitting there for a while.
I could have sat there all day. I walked around a bit before I went to the meditation room. Here they ask you to creatively express your experience. Giving it all of 20 seconds, this is what I come up with.
